The Choose Tourism NSW Program is hosting a series of Tourism & Hospitality Experience Schools Days across regional NSW.
The Schools Day aim to promote careers in the visitor economy to young people.
The first workshop was held at Oaklands Event Centre, Pambula, followed by a second schools day at The Lodge, Jamberoo.
The full-day Pambula program was attended by students from Eden Marine High School, Bega High School, Sapphire Coast Anglican College and Lumen Christi Catholic College.
Subjects covered included commercial cookery, front of house, event management, venue management, outdoor recreation, tourism marketing and career pathways.
Industry experts at the event shared their career journeys to encourage students to consider working in tourism and hospitality, including Jan Semmelhack from Mimosa Wines and Restaurant, Jacquie Smith from Wheelers Seafood Restaurant and Oyster Farm, Hanna Marshall from Merimbula Tourism, Lynn McColl from Breeze Lab, Jack Vass from Coastlife Adventures, Anthony Osborne from The Destination Agency and Deb Meers from Cruise Eden.
The Lodge event was attended by students from Dapto High School, Figtree High School, Five Islands Secondary College, Illawarra Sports High School, Warrawong High School, Amity College, Kanahooka HIgh School, Albion Park High School, Kiama High School, Lake Illawarra High School, Oak Flats High School and Warilla High School.
Experts included Jen Downes from TAFE NSW, Brent McInnes and Tim Nguyen from The Lodge, Grant Wright from Jamberoo Action Park, Ian Bradburn from Optimum Experiences and Balunn Jones Yours & Owls Festival.
The NSW Choose Tourism Program's Tourism & Hospitality Experience Schools Day is delivering 10 events across NSW designed to inspire high school students to choose a career in tourism and/or hospitality.
The full-day programs showcase a range of presentations from local tourism and hospitality experts who share their career journeys.
Students receive information on pathways for building their careers in tourism and hospitality through study options available either through school-based programs or when they leave school.
