“I am delighted to announce that Ms Bishop has been appointed. Julie brings a wealth of experience to the position, which includes 18 years in the tourism industry both here in Australia and abroad,” Ms Chipchase said.

“Ms Bishop’s career includes eight years at Tourism Victoria in research, destination development, regional marketing and state branding roles, as well as senior roles as the Director of Marketing with the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority in the United Arab Emirates and Director of Global Marketing with Tourism Northern Territory.

“After returning to settle in Sydney, Ms Bishop has worked with Transport for NSW to bring the Opal card to life and in the aviation sector, looking after Air New Zealand’s brand in Australia,” she said.

Destination NSW General Manager, Industry Partnerships and Government Policy, Simonne Shepherd says Julie will lead what is already a strong Destination Development Team, who work with a broad range of NSW industry stakeholders, to help contribute to the goal of doubling overnight visitor expenditure in NSW by 2020.

“Ms Bishop brings multi-disciplinary experience to leading the Destination Development Team, which includes Destination Partnerships, Regional Programs and Services, Visitor Services, Regional Event Development and Sector Development,” Ms Shepherd said.

Ms Bishop commences on 14 July 2014 and says she’s looking forward to starting her new role at Destination NSW, contributing to doubling overnight visitor expenditure by 2020.

“Sydney and NSW are wonderful destinations to promote, so I am looking forward to joining the team and utilising my experience gained in Australian and overseas markets,” Ms Bishop said.
