To commemorate its 20th birthday, Google Maps has curated a list of Australia's most reviewed locations on the platform – spanning iconic landmarks, museums, restaurants and more.
The founders of Where 2 Technologies, brothers Lars and Jens Rasmussen, sketched out their vision for the technology in an apartment in Sydney’s Hunter’s Hill in 2003, with the company bought by Google in 2004 and Google Maps launching in 2005.
Two billion people worldwide now use Google Maps find their way each month. Australians also use it to do everything from track bushfires to make reservations.
The 20th birthday list offers a snapshot of Australia's most talked-about places right now, based on reviews.
NSW dominated the list, taking out Most-Reviewed Restaurant (Dosa Hut Indian Restaurant, Harris Park), Most-Reviewed Visitor Attraction (Darling Harbour, Sydney) and Most-Reviewed Ice Cream Shop (Cow & The Moon, Enmore - pictured main).
Also making the top five in the Most-Reviewed Restaurant category were Chatkazz Harris Park Restaurant, Harris Park and Opera Bar, Sydney.
