Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events and Minister for Sport Stuart Ayres has encouraged sports fans to get involved and support this world-class tournament in our own backyard.

“Australia last hosted the Netball World Cup in Sydney 24 years ago, so it’s fantastic to see it back on our shores,” Mr Ayres said.

“With every match being played exclusively in Sydney, it furthers our city’s reputation as Australia’s capital of major sporting events. It joins a packed calendar over the coming months, which includes the Bledisloe Cup, NRL Grand Final, V8 Supercars Sydney 500, Australian Open Golf and many more.

“I’d encourage everyone to book their tickets now and get along to cheer on the Diamonds, who are looking to win their third successive Netball World Cup.”

The tournament will provide a major boost to the local economy, with 4,000 domestic and international visitors expected to attend, delivering more than $6 million to NSW in visitor expenditure.

Netball World Cup Sydney 2015 was secured for Sydney by the NSW Government, through its tourism and major events agency Destination NSW, in partnership with Netball Australia.

The event will run over the next nine days featuring teams from 16 nations, including England, New Zealand, Jamaica, South Africa and Scotland with the final being played at Allphones Arena on Sunday, 16 August.
