Destination NSW Board of Management

Method of appointment and term of board members

Under the terms of the Destination NSW Act 2011, members of the Board of Management of Destination NSW are appointed by the responsible minister. During the 2023–2024 financial year, the responsible minister was:

  • Minister for Jobs and Tourism, The Hon. John Graham, MLC

The Board consists of a chairman (also appointed by the Minister), individuals with relevant skills and experience, the Secretary of the Department of Enterprise, Investment and Trade, and the Chief Executive Officer. Each member holds office for the term specified in their instrument of appointment. If they are otherwise qualified, members are eligible for reappointment for additional term(s).

Regional board meetings

Destination NSW holds several board meetings each year in regional NSW to facilitate engagement with local visitor economy stakeholders. During FY23–24, board meetings were held in Eden (August 2023) and Coffs Harbour (February 2024).

The August 2023 Board meeting was hosted by Port Authority of NSW at Port Eden. While visiting the Sapphire Coast, Chairman Sally Loane, Destination NSW CEO Steve Cox, and members of the Board met with local stakeholders during an event at Hotel Australasia. The Board was also given an eco-tour of the region by Navigate Expeditions and visited local attractions, including Gravity Eden Mountain Bike Park and Broadwater Oysters.

The February 2024 Board meeting was held in Coffs Harbour at Pacific Bay Resort. While on the North Coast, the Board met with local stakeholders at an event at Coffs Harbour Lifesaving Club. They also toured local attractions, including The Big Banana Fun Park, Coffs Coast Wildlife Sanctuary, Yarilla Place, Bonville Golf Resort, and Sealy Lookout.

During their visit, Destination NSW board member Clark Webb welcomed the Board to NSW’s first bilingual school of an Aboriginal language. Mr. Webb is CEO of Bularri Muurlay Nyanggan Aboriginal Corporation, which established the school in 2022.

Board committees

Audit and Risk Committee

The Committee has an important role in risk management and audit through endorsement of internal and external audit plans, review of audit reports, and the review of risk assessment and management. This committee also ensures the sound financial position of Destination NSW through regular reviews of its financial performance.

The Destination NSW Audit and Risk Committee met on four occasions during the 2023-2024 financial year. The attendance record of the members was:

Business Events Sydney

Destination NSW has two board members on the Business Events Sydney Board:

From 3 May 2023, the Minister for Jobs and Tourism administered the following Acts and the Regulations made under those Acts:

  • Destination NSW Act 2011 No 21
  • Major Events Act 2009 No 73 (jointly with the Minister for Sport)

From 1 April 2024, by Administrative Arrangements (Administrative Changes—Miscellaneous) Order 2024, the Destination NSW Staff Agency was abolished. The persons employed in the Destination NSW Staff Agency were transferred to the Department of Enterprise, Investment and Trade Staff Agency.
