With Western Sydney International (WSI) on track to open to international, domestic and air cargo services in late 2026, Western Sydney Tourism Taskforce is hosting an industry event featuring Premier Chris Minns.

'Navigating the Future of Western Sydney Tourism' will focus on the opportunities and challenges facing the visitor economy in Western Sydney.

It will include a keynote address from Mr Minns, who will share his insights and vision for the future of the region.

The event will be held on 2 August 2024 at PARKROYAL Parramatta.

New data from Tourism Research Australia data shows Western Sydney accounted for more than 20 per cent of domestic overnight visitors to Sydney in the year ending March 2024.

The region welcomed a total of 2.3 million domestic overnight visitors during the period (up 5.5 per cent on the previous year). These visitors stayed 6.5 million nights and spent $1.5 billion, an increase of 29.7 per cent and 34.1 per cent respectively on the previous year.

Western Sydney is the fastest-growing and most diverse region in NSW.

It is home to around 2.73 million people, representing a third of the NSW population.

Western Sydney businesses account for approximately 29 per cent of all NSW businesses and contributed about one fifth of NSW’s gross state product in 2022-23.

The NSW Budget allocated $1 billion in 2024-25 to Western Sydney, including funding for new roads connecting people and communities with WSI and Bradfield City Centre.

This investment supports the delivery of the Western Sydney Aerotropolis, which is set to become a thriving economic centre.
