Sydney has been crowned Oceania’s Leading City Destination at the 2024 World Travel Awards, which saw NSW triumph across 11 categories.

The World Travel Awards were established in 1993 to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the visitor economy.

Sydney is the international gateway to Australia and its top destination for domestic and international visitors.

Tourism Research Australia data shows that it was number one among all Australian capital cities for total domestic visitors, nights and expenditure in the year ending March 2024.

NSW winners included:

  • Oceania’s Leading Airport: Sydney Airport
  • Oceania's Leading Business Hotel: InterContinental Sydney
  • Oceania's Leading Hotel: The Langham, Sydney
  • Oceania's Leading Meetings & Conference Destination: Sydney
  • Oceania's Leading New Hotel: W Sydney, Australia
  • Oceania's Leading Serviced Apartments: Fraser Suites Sydney, Australia
  • Australia's Leading Conference Hotel: W Sydney
  • Australia's Leading Luxury Hotel: The Fullerton Hotel Sydney
  • Australia's Leading Resort: Oaks Cypress Lakes Resort
  • Australia's Leading Retreat: Gaia Retreat & Spa

Qantas Airways also claimed the title for Oceania’s Leading Airline Brand.

This year’s World Travel Awards Asia & Oceania Gala Ceremony was hosted at City of Dreams in Manila.

Philippines Department of Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco said: “This year's World Travel Awards is not only a celebration of excellence in tourism, but a testament to the resilience, creativity and collaborative spirit of our global tourism community.”

WTA founder Graham Cooke said: “Our winners are stellar examples of tourism excellence and I congratulate each and every one for helping to raise the collective benchmark across Asia and Oceania.”

The winners of WTA's regional programs will progress to the Grand Final, which will be held in Madeira (Portugal) at the end of the year.
