Western Sydney is set to take off as Australia’s gourmet gateway, ready to attract global foodies with award-winning restaurants, multicultural festivals and fresh food markets all on the doorstep of Sydney’s first 24/7 international airport.
The region’s potential as a world-class dining destination was today showcased at the launch of the free guide, Best of the West – A Food Lovers’ Guide to Greater Western Sydney, produced by leading advocacy group, the Western Sydney Leadership Dialogue.

Speaking at the unveiling of the book, online guide and social media campaign at Western Sydney International Airport, the NSW Minister for Tourism, the Arts, Music, Night-time Economy, Transport and Roads, John Graham, said the publication would prove a must-have for visitors.
“This guide does a fantastic job of telling the world what locals have known for a long time, that Western Sydney’s food scene is one of our city’s best assets.
"The incredible array of restaurants across the diverse neighbourhoods of Western Sydney will have an increasingly important role in the state’s visitor economy when the new airport opens next year.
"Every passenger should get their hands on one of these guides when they get off the plane.”
Dialogue CEO, Adam Leto, said Best of the West captured Western Sydney’s rightful place as the nation’s kitchen.
“Food is one of the world’s great connectors and brings people together, whatever their age or background. Food is inclusive, diverse and expressive - qualities that are synonymous with Western Sydney.
“If the kitchen is the heart of the home, then I see Western Sydney as Australia’s kitchen. It is a centre of activity, where cultures and communities of all backgrounds meet and thrive, and where visitors are welcomed and treated like guests.
“With Western Sydney International Airport less than a couple of years away from opening, and millions of visitors landing on our doorstep, our region has the opportunity to host a nightly dinner party for the world, and I’ve got no doubt we’ve got the talent and the tastes to make it work.”
